JD Vance refers 225 hospitals to DOJ over alleged gender-care fraud

Vice President JD Vance and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have referred more than 225 hospitals and healthcare systems to the Department of Justice for potential federal law violations. The referral follows the release of an HHS report titled ‘Wolves in White Coats: How Doctors and Hospitals Pushed and Profited from the Fraud of Gender Medicine.’

The report alleges that certain providers pushed minors toward experimental gender-transitioning treatments to generate profit. Specifically, officials claim some institutions may have used misleading billing codes to secure tens of millions of dollars from Medicaid and private insurers for procedures that might not otherwise have been covered.

In a communication to Attorney General Todd Blanche, Vance stated that the administration intends to determine if these providers violated federal laws, regulations, or policies. He emphasized that if providers intentionally miscoded treatments to perpetrate fraud, they should be held accountable and face criminal prosecution.
