J.D. Vance remains noncommittal on 2028 presidential run
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has remained noncommittal regarding a potential run for the presidency in 2028. In an interview with NBC News, Vance stated that any decision regarding his political future would depend on gathering more information, specifically following the upcoming midterm elections.
Vance noted that midterm elections are traditionally difficult for the party holding the White House and control of both houses of Congress. He emphasized his current focus is on supporting Republican candidates in the upcoming elections.
While Vance has led Republican polling for the 2028 nomination with approximately 39.7% support, he also commented on the political landscape, suggesting it is “really obvious” that Senator Ted Cruz is currently preparing a presidential bid. Cruz currently holds roughly 3% support in RealClearPolitics polling averages.
