JD Vance says US and Israel diverge on Iran talks as Trump pushes deal
Vice President JD Vance, who is heading the United States negotiating team, told CBS Sunday Morning that President Donald Trump said he “doesn’t trust anybody” in the Iran war and reaffirmed the U.S. objective of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Vance also said that American and Israeli interests on Iran differ, warning that a U.S.–Iran agreement could trigger a crisis with Israel. He emphasized that U.S. policy, not Israeli preferences, will guide any deal.
President Trump has publicly warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against further strikes that could jeopardize the negotiations, telling him, “you’ll be on your own very soon” if Israel acts unilaterally.
On June 9 the United States launched strikes on Iran after a U.S. Army Apache helicopter was downed over the Strait of Hormuz. The two pilots were rescued by an unmanned surface drone, marking the first use of a drone for a water rescue, and the incident has further heightened tensions around the diplomatic effort.
