JD.com integrates AI digital employees into corporate hierarchy

JD.com has begun a pilot program within its CFO system to incorporate AI digital employees into the P3 job grade, establishing independent staffing for these digital agents. Reports indicate that some AI agents are performing at levels that exceed those of human interns.

This shift reflects a broader trend where artificial intelligence is impacting entry-level employment. In industries such as finance, advertising, and media, companies are increasingly using AI to handle standardized tasks like data collection and report drafting. This reduces the need for traditional internships, which historically served as a bridge between academic learning and professional expertise.

A study from the Stanford Digital Economy Lab suggests that in sectors highly susceptible to AI, employment levels for individuals aged 22 to 25 have dropped by approximately 19 percent compared to previous trends. This impact is primarily seen through reduced recruitment of new staff rather than mass layoffs of existing employees.

Despite these changes, large corporations like JD.com continue to offer significant internship opportunities, suggesting that the role of interns may evolve toward managing AI tools rather than being replaced entirely.
