JD.com launches AI smart helmet for delivery riders
JD.com has launched an artificial intelligence-powered smart helmet designed to enhance safety and efficiency for its food delivery riders. The wearable technology integrates a head-up display (HUD) and an AI voice assistant, allowing riders to access navigation, accept orders, and contact customers hands-free. This design aims to reduce cognitive load and minimize distractions caused by checking smartphones while riding.
Key features include a ‘single-king route’ navigation system that provides highly specific location guidance, such as exact building or delivery points, which traditional GPS often misses. The helmet also includes an emergency SOS button, merchant-environment verification tools, and the ability to analyze delivery notes to remind riders of specific instructions.
JD.com plans to initially distribute the helmets free of charge to its full-time riders before expanding access. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to digitize last-mile logistics and reduce workplace injuries and liability costs within the high-pressure Chinese delivery sector.
