JDU holds key meeting in Bihar to discuss UCC and Farakka treaty

The Janata Dal (United) (JDU) held a significant meeting and orientation program at its Patna office on September 18. The gathering included Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Executive President Sanjay Jha, and various party MLAs, MLCs, and ministers.

While the official purpose of the event was to provide legislative training—covering house procedures, budget processes, and effective questioning techniques—the meeting also addressed several pressing political issues. Discussions included the party's stance on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), with leaders noting they will finalize their position after reviewing the proposed draft.

The Farakka water treaty, set to expire in December 2026, was also a key topic as the party seeks to represent Bihar's interests to the central government. Additionally, internal political dynamics were noted, including calls from some members to name Nishant Kumar as a future Chief Minister candidate and suggestions to rename the party to ‘Janata Dal Nitish’.
