JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha asserts party's central role in Bihar politics
Sanjay Kumar Jha, National Executive President of the Janata Dal (United), stated that the JD(U) will remain the center of Bihar politics in the future. Speaking at a ‘Nitish Dialogue on the Farakka Water Treaty’ in Hilalpur, Vaishali, Jha emphasized that public and party confidence in Nitish Kumar remains strong after 25 years of public service.
Jha highlighted the Farakka Water Treaty as a critical issue affecting the interests of Bihar's 130 million residents. He argued that since the treaty's inception in 1996, Bihar's population has grown significantly, and the state should have the primary right to Ganges water for its own needs after it enters the state.
He noted that the treaty involves diverting water to Bangladesh between January and May when Ganges water levels are low. Jha pointed out that the state has spent vast resources on flood and irrigation issues over three decades, and better water management is essential for upcoming industrial corridors in regions like Patna, Hajipur, and Sonpur to ensure water availability for industry and drinking needs.
