Jean Alain Rodríguez case: Dominican court rejects request to end trial

The Second Collegiate Tribunal of the National District in the Dominican Republic has rejected a request to declare the extinction of criminal action in the Medusa case, involving former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez. The defense argued that the judicial process has exceeded the legal four-year limit, noting that the case has lasted nearly six years. However, the judges ruled that the duration does not constitute an unjustified delay, citing the complexity of the case, the volume of evidence—including a file of nearly 12,000 pages—and the extensive procedural activities, such as approximately 99 hearings held during the instruction phase.

Rodríguez is accused of leading a corruption network that allegedly embezzled over 6 billion pesos through fraudulent operations between 2016 and 2020. The Public Ministry, represented by officials including Wilson Camacho, asserted that the defense has used dilatory tactics, such as numerous recusations and appeals, to stall the proceedings. Following the ruling, the court ordered the continuation of the trial. The defense has announced its intention to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal, maintaining that the legal time limits have been violated.
