Jean Alain Rodríguez corruption trial faces delays amid Pepca accusations

Mirna Ortiz, head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), has accused the defense teams of former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez and other defendants in the ‘Medusa case’ of attempting to delay the trial. Ortiz claims the legal motions filed by the defense aim to stall the proceedings to eventually seek an expiration of the statute of limitations.

The defense requested to re-examine 21 procedural incidents, arguing that the inclusion of a new judge justified a new review. However, the prosecution maintains that these issues were already debated and should have been resolved alongside the final sentence. Prosecutors argued that the defense could present their arguments during the evidence incorporation phase instead of delaying the trial.

The court has scheduled the presentation of these new motions for October 14, 2026, while rejecting the defense's request for more time to prepare arguments. Jean Alain Rodríguez, who served as Attorney General from 2016 to 2020, faces allegations involving the embezzlement of over RD$6,000 million through fraudulent operations, including bribery, money laundering, and fraud against the state.
