Jean-Clair Todibo joins RC Lens on loan from West Ham
Jean-Clair Todibo has joined RC Lens on a season-long loan from West Ham United. The move, which does not include an option to purchase, comes after Lens successfully outmaneuvered Olympique de Marseille for the French international defender.
Marseille had reportedly reached a verbal agreement in principle with Todibo earlier in August. However, the club's need to manage its wage bill and finalize player departures prevented them from concluding the transfer. Lens capitalized on this situation to secure the defender, who reportedly accepted a significant salary reduction to facilitate the move to the Artois region.
Marseille coach Bruno Genesio expressed resignation regarding the failed transfer, stating he was not surprised by the outcome despite his desire to add Todibo to his central defense. The loss of Todibo leaves Marseille's defensive line further depleted following the departures of Facundo Medina and Leonardo Balerdi.
