Van Damme, born Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg in 1960 near Brussels, rose to international fame in the late 1980s and 1990s. He is best known for iconic martial arts films such as ‘Bloodsport’ (1988) and ‘Kickboxer’ (1989). Before his film career, he trained in karate, bodybuilding, and ballet.

His career history includes a move to the United States in the early 1980s and various personal challenges, including past struggles with cocaine addiction and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
