Jean Colleen Johnston Callis passes away at age 100

Jean Colleen Johnston Callis passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 100. Born in Warsaw, Ohio, she was a graduate of the Coshocton High School Class of 1944 and a member of the National Honor Society.

Throughout her life, Callis was involved in various professional and philanthropic endeavors. She worked as a stenographer for the Civil Service during the war, an insurance agent, and a landscape design critic. Her volunteer work included significant fundraising efforts for the Southeast Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she served as a past president of the Women’s Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Women’s Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra.

In her later years, she returned to Coshocton, Ohio, where she served on several boards, including the Pomerine Center for the Arts, the Humerick Johnson House Museum, the Salvation Army, and the Coshocton Community Choir. She also initiated a donation program through the Coshocton Foundation during her 50th high school reunion.
