Jean-Louis van der Velde becomes Netherlands' richest person
Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Jean-Louis van der Velde has overtaken Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken to become the wealthiest person in the Netherlands, according to the latest Quote 500 list. Van der Velde, the founder of Tether and Bitfinex, has an estimated fortune of €26 billion.
The total wealth of the top 500 wealthiest individuals in the Netherlands has grown by more than 10 percent, exceeding €300 billion. The rise in the number of millionaire households, which increased by 23 percent to over 574,000, is largely attributed to rising real estate values.
While the majority of millionaire wealth is tied to business interests and property, the cryptocurrency sector has seen significant movement. De Nederlandsche Bank reported that Dutch households hold approximately €3.2 billion in crypto assets through domestic providers, with Bitcoin accounting for nearly half of that value.
