Jean Nassif claims building issues are ‘minor defects’ amid Parramatta resident struggles

Fugitive developer Jean Nassif recently appeared before the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), where he characterized building issues as ‘minor defects.’ This testimony comes amid ongoing struggles at the Riviera apartment complex in Parramatta, a six-building development built in 2018 by Nassif’s liquidated company, Toplace.

Residents of the complex report severe structural and safety issues, including cracked balconies, leaking fire sprinkler water tanks, malfunctioning lifts, and sticking glass doors. Additionally, occupants have faced significant pest infestations that have damaged household electronics.

Despite Nassif’s claims that Toplace addressed defects through a maintenance arm, owners are reportedly seeking between $8 million and $10 million to rectify fire safety, structural, and waterproofing problems. Legal action regarding approximately 45 alleged defects began eight years ago.
