Jean Paul Gaultier uses 3D printing for haute couture collection

Jean Paul Gaultier has collaborated with 3D printing service Sculpteo to create five haute couture looks for its Autumn/Winter 2026–27 collection. The designs utilize additive manufacturing to achieve intricate textures, organic forms, and complex geometries that are difficult to produce through traditional couture methods.

Using HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology, the pieces were printed using PA12, a lightweight and durable polymer, and flexible TPU materials. These components were supplied in a raw state to the couture atelier, where artisans finished them by hand to ensure they met the house’s high standards of craftsmanship.

The application of the technology varied across the designs. For one look, the 3D-printed part served as a sculptural bust substrate that was sanded, primed, and latex-dipped to create a skin-like finish. In another, individual PA12 petals were printed separately and hand-assembled into a three-dimensional composition. The collaboration allowed the fashion house to realize complex concepts within a demanding timeline while maintaining dimensional accuracy for body-fitted garments.
