Jean-Pierre Papin criticizes Olympique de Marseille management

Former Olympique de Marseille striker and 1991 Ballon d'Or winner Jean-Pierre Papin has spoken out regarding the circumstances surrounding his departure from the club in 2025. In an interview with L’Équipe, Papin detailed significant internal tensions during his tenure as coach of the club's reserve team.

Papin accused Ali Zarrak, the then-manager of the Pro 2 team, of undermining his authority by interfering in sporting decisions and team compositions. Papin claimed he experienced “moral harassment for a year and a half” and stated that he repeatedly alerted club president Pablo Longoria to these issues without seeing any resolution.

He also expressed frustration over an investigation conducted by an external firm that he claims was halted without explanation. Papin described his final period at the club as a “catastrophe,” noting that his desire to conclude his career at Marseille ended in bitterness due to internal mismanagement.
