Jeana Moore completes walking journey to promote stem cell registry

Jeana Moore, 73, has completed her fifth ‘Steps-to-Marrow’ walking journey to raise awareness for stem cell and bone marrow donor registries. The most recent trek spanned 356 miles (approximately 570 km) over 45 days, traveling through Washington, British Columbia, and Vancouver Island.

The campaign was inspired by Moore’s granddaughter, Jada Bascom, who survived acute myeloid leukemia as an infant in 2007. After searches in the United States failed to find a match, a compatible donor was located in Germany.

Through the Jada Bascom Foundation, Moore aims to increase registry participation and assist with tissue-typing costs to remove financial barriers for potential donors. Canadian Blood Services noted that the campaign has successfully driven interest in stem cell registries through digital engagement during the walk.
