Jeany Pinheiro assumes interim leadership of Coari following mayor's suspension

Jeany Pinheiro, president of the Coari Municipal Chamber, has assumed interim control of the Coari City Hall in Amazonas. Her appointment follows a 90-day suspension of Mayor Adail Pinheiro, ordered by Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

The leadership change is part of ‘Operação Dinastia do Lago’, a Federal Police investigation into suspected corruption, money laundering, and bidding fraud within the municipal administration. The operation follows the seizure of approximately R$ 1 million in cash, US$ 10,000, € 1,255, 21 vehicles, and various luxury items including jewelry and watches during searches in Manaus and Coari.

While the investigation targets potential criminal organization activities involving municipal contracts, officials noted that the precautionary suspension and searches do not constitute a definitive conviction. The vice-mayor, Emanuel Pinheiro, is currently on leave to campaign for a state deputy seat, leaving Pinheiro to manage the municipality.
