Jeep Grand Cherokee to receive Hurricane inline-six engine in 2028
Jeep is reportedly planning to introduce the Hurricane inline-six engine to the Grand Cherokee lineup, with the update expected to arrive for the 2028 model year.
Currently, the Grand Cherokee offers a 2.0-liter Hurricane inline-four producing 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The upcoming 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six is expected to deliver a significant performance boost, with reports suggesting outputs of approximately 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. This would provide a more powerful alternative for consumers seeking performance similar to the discontinued HEMI V8 engines.
While previous technical constraints suggested the inline-six might not fit within the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee's engine bay, recent prototypes indicate the engine is compatible. There is also speculation that a higher-output version of the Hurricane engine could eventually power a performance-oriented SRT variant.
