Jeff Bezos says AI will spur labor shortage, not mass unemployment

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos argued that artificial intelligence will not cause mass job losses but could create a labor shortage as productivity drives demand for more projects. In an interview he said, “Those who claim all jobs will disappear are simply wrong.”

Bezos co‑founded Prometheus, an industrial‑AI startup with former Google X executive Vikram Bajaj. The company has raised $12 billion in Series B financing at a $41 billion valuation and employs about 150 staff. Prometheus aims to build an “artificial general engineer” that can design and manufacture physical products—from jet engines to medical devices—by applying AI to real‑world engineering processes.

The venture positions itself against other AI leaders who warn of widespread white‑collar job disruption, emphasizing that AI could increase overall economic activity and lead to a shortage of workers to fill the new demand.
