Jeff Bezos touts AI-driven prosperity as Amazon lays off 16,000 workers

In a recent interview, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said artificial intelligence will usher an era of cheap housing and food, arguing that the technology will eliminate concerns about unemployment. He also referenced his own AI‑focused startup, which is now valued at about $10 billion.

At the same time, Amazon announced a reduction of roughly 16,000 jobs worldwide as part of a broader cost‑cutting effort. Bezos linked his optimism about AI to the company's restructuring, while recalling a 2001 remark that “stress comes from ignoring things you shouldn’t ignore… you just need to make the first phone call, or send the first email” to alleviate stress through action.
