Jeff Bezos Water Quote on AI Proven Fabricated

Social media posts in June claimed that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said artificial‑intelligence systems should be given priority for water consumption over humans. The alleged comment was said to have been made at the VivaTech technology conference in Paris.

Fact‑checkers including Snopes and ASNOP found no record of such a statement. The quote originated from a satirical Instagram account (BPD News) that posted a parody text which was later shared as genuine. Video and article excerpts from the conference show no mention of the claim, and searches of transcripts and reputable news outlets produced no evidence. The false story was circulated on platforms such as Facebook, X, Reddit and Instagram, misleading many users.

Both Indian and Hungarian fact‑checking outlets reported the debunking, noting the quote’s root in satire and describing how the misinformation spread despite the real debate over water use by data‑center cooling systems for AI.
