Jeff Bezos's $500M superyacht Koru arrives in Auckland

Jeff Bezos’s 417-foot sailing superyacht, Koru, has arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, docking at the Wynyard Quarter in Waitematā Harbour. Built by the Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco, the vessel is valued at approximately $500 million and is one of the largest sailing yachts in the world.

The yacht’s name, Koru, is the Māori word for an unfurling fern frond. It is accompanied by a support vessel, Abeona, which carries a helicopter and additional equipment.

Beyond the spectacle of its arrival, the location may offer financial advantages for the vessel's upkeep. In New Zealand, qualifying repair and maintenance work on temporarily imported boats can be charged at a zero percent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate, rather than the standard 15 percent, potentially saving significant costs on major services.
