Jeff Browning in coma after heart attack during TDS race

American ultrarunner Jeff Browning is currently in a coma following a heart attack during the TDS race at the UTMB World Series in Chamonix, France. The 55-year-old athlete was approximately 129 kilometers into the 145-kilometer race when the medical emergency occurred.

Reports indicate that Browning had suffered a fall earlier in the race, which resulted in broken glasses and blurry vision. While he initially appeared to be in good spirits, he required defibrillation at an aid station before being airlifted to a hospital. There is speculation that the earlier fall may have caused a brain hemorrhage, such as an intracranial hemorrhage or epidural hematoma, which could have triggered the cardiac event.

A statement from the Browning family confirmed that he received immediate medical treatment from race and emergency teams and remains under medical care. Browning is a highly respected figure in the ultrarunning community, with notable achievements including winning the Hardrock 100 in 2018.
