Jeff Gordon wins revived IROC race in Washington, D.C

Jeff Gordon secured an overall victory in the revived International Race of Champions (IROC) held at a new 1.7-mile street circuit around the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The event, part of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend, featured two 10-lap exhibition races using authentic Pontiac Firebirds from the 1996-2006 era.

The 55-year-old four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion won the first race after starting seventh and successfully defended his position in the second race, which featured an inverted field, against Kurt Busch. This victory marks Gordon’s first individual race win since his retirement from full-time Cup racing in 2015.

The resurrected series, spearheaded by NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham, brought together a field of racing legends including Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliott, and IndyCar veterans such as Tony Kanaan, Hélio Castroneves, and Dario Franchitti.
