Jefferson County to consider U. S. Steel and Drummond tax abatements

The Jefferson County Commission is set to consider economic development proposals from U. S. Steel and Drummond Company.

U. S. Steel Seamless Tubular Operations LLC plans a $463 million investment, allocating $222 million for construction and $241 million for equipment. The company is seeking a jobs grant capped at $456,000, following previous approvals for sales and property tax abatements. The project is expected to create 152 jobs with an average hourly wage of $35.36. The county anticipates a return on investment of approximately $16.4 million to the general fund and $42.5 million to the education fund.

Additionally, Drummond Company is seeking approval for a tax abatement regarding a project with ABC Coke in Tarrant. This project involves a capital investment of approximately $183 million to construct and install replacement coke ovens and equipment to support foundry operations.
