Jeffrey Epstein file revelations fuel US political controversy

Survivors of Jeffrey Epstein have repeatedly testified before US lawmakers, urging accountability for the alleged trafficking network that victimised more than a thousand people. Their appearances include meetings with then‑Attorney General Pam Bondi and a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, where they highlighted the lack of concrete action despite promises from politicians such as Vice‑President JD Vance.

At the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the controversy resurfaced when CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer highlighted a Wall Street Journal investigation that published a 2003 birthday letter allegedly signed by Donald Trump to Epstein. Trump’s reaction – a smile, shrug and raised arms – went viral, and the evening featured an award to the Journal for its reporting. The outlet subsequently faced a $20 billion lawsuit from Trump and reporting restrictions, while the investigation continued to draw public attention to the unresolved Epstein files.
