Jeffrey Gouweleeuw sets FC Augsburg appearance record

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw has become the all-time Bundesliga appearance record holder for FC Augsburg. By coming on as a substitute during a match against Union Berlin, the Dutch defender reached 275 appearances, surpassing the previous record held by club icon Daniel Baier.

Gouweleeuw, who joined the club from AZ Alkmaar in 2016, expressed pride in the milestone, stating that Augsburg is his home and that achieving this personal goal was significant.

Despite the historic achievement, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Gouweleeuw expressed frustration regarding the result, specifically citing a controversial non-call for a handball by Union Berlin's Leopold Querfeld that preceded the equalizer. He also noted that the team struggled with impatience following an early red card to Felix Uduokhai.
