Jeffrey Sachs warns of nuclear risk and US hegemony
Economist and UN advisor Jeffrey Sachs has issued a warning regarding the increased risk of nuclear confrontation, noting that the Doomsday Clock currently stands at 89 seconds to midnight. Sachs attributes the current global instability primarily to United States foreign policy since 1991, arguing that the American establishment continues to pursue imperial dominance through a ‘with us or against us’ mentality.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Sachs contends the war is not merely unprovoked aggression by Russia, but is rooted in NATO's eastward expansion and the 2014 events in Kyiv. He suggests that US involvement, specifically citing Victoria Nuland, played a role in the removal of President Yanukovych. Sachs further argues that the logic of the military-industrial complex prevents a meaningful resolution to the conflict, as it necessitates continued NATO expansion into regions like Ukraine and Georgia.
