Jeffrey Yates elected to EITI International Board

Jeffrey Yates, head of the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI) Secretariat, has been elected to the International Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Yates secured the position of Alternate Board Member for the Anglophone and Lusophone Africa Region following a competitive election involving Liberia, Zambia, and Nigeria.

In the regional contest for two allocated seats, Liberia and Zambia were successful, while Nigeria did not secure a position. The election was approved by the EITI Members’ Meeting, which consists of the 56 countries implementing the initiative. In addition to his board seat, Yates was appointed to the EITI International Board's Validation Committee.

The EITI International Board serves as the organization’s primary consensus-based decision-making body. It is responsible for setting organizational priorities, exercising executive powers, approving work plans and budgets, and evaluating the progress of implementing countries regarding the EITI Standard.
