Jeju Altteureu Airfield memorial art project released

Video archive production company MOMENT INSIDE has released ‘Lost Villages’, the first episode of its ‘Memorial Art’ series. Filmed against the backdrop of the Altteureu Airfield control tower in Jeju, the project uses cello music and visual media to document the history of residents who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the construction of military facilities during the Japanese colonial period.

The work aims to move beyond merely recording Japanese military structures by focusing on the human history of the people who once lived on the land. The piece features the composition ‘That Island, Jeju’ by composer Moon Hyo-jin, arranged by cellist Oh Seong-jong and performed by the cello ensemble Hardcase.

MOMENT INSIDE plans to continue its archival efforts through various series, including ‘Your Moment’ and ‘Local Community Archive’, collaborating with experts in research, culture, and art to preserve historical narratives for future generations.
