Jeju Beach Games attracts 1,200 visitors to Gimnyeong Beach
The inaugural ‘2026 Jeju Beach Games’ concluded at Gimnyeong Beach in Gujwa-eup, Jeju, attracting approximately 1,200 participants and spectators. Organized by the Jeju Tourism Organization and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the event combined functional fitness competitions with Jeju’s natural coastal environment.
Competitions were held in three categories: mixed teams of three, men’s teams of two, and women’s teams of two. Athletes tested their strength and endurance through various stations on the sand. The winning teams included ‘Sudongtae’ (mixed), ‘Rikkabuljimara’ (men), and ‘Honey Badgers’ (women). Beyond the main competition, the event featured various activities such as beach yoga, beach runs, muscle beach sessions, keg tossing, and paddleboarding.
The organizers noted that the event successfully boosted local commerce by drawing crowds to the beach during the autumn off-season, increasing foot traffic to nearby restaurants and cafes. Moving forward, Jeju officials plan to expand the scale of the games and strengthen ties with local businesses and international athletes to create a sustainable tourism model for the autumn season.
