Jeju court sentences child safety guardian for molesting minor
A man in his 60s serving as a child safety guardian has been sentenced by the Jeju District Court for the sexual molestation of a minor. The defendant was found guilty of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes after he molested a child while pushing their swing.
The court sentenced the individual to 2 years and 6 months in prison, suspended for 4 years. Additional orders include probation, 80 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures, and a 10-year employment ban at institutions involving children, adolescents, or persons with disabilities.
While the defendant claimed the contact was accidental and inevitable during the act of pushing the swing, the court rejected this defense. Judges cited CCTV footage and the victim's testimony, noting that the defendant's hand movements were inconsistent with normal swing-pushing motions.
