Jeju District Court sentences two men for sexual assault and illegal drug request
The Jeju District Court imposed a custodial sentence of two years and six months on a 37‑year‑old man convicted of quasi‑rape, attempted rape, fraud and violations of ICT laws after he assaulted his former partner while she was ill, borrowed 7.5 million won and accessed her online accounts without permission. The court also ordered him to complete a 40‑hour sexual‑violence treatment program and barred him from employment in child, youth or disability services for five years.
In a separate case, the same court sentenced another 30‑year‑old man to ten months in prison for violating the Narcotics Control Act. He had asked a taxi driver to obtain a prescription for the controlled medication zolpidem, repeating the same method after a prior suspended sentence. The court noted the repeat offense justified a real‑term prison term, although the defendant was not taken into custody.
Both defendants will serve their sentences without immediate incarceration, reflecting the court’s emphasis on deterrence for serious personal and drug‑related crimes.
