Jeju faces scrutiny over Para Games safety as National Sports Festival approaches
The recent National Para Games held in Jeju revealed significant deficiencies in emergency response and accessibility. During a weightlifting event, a competitor suffered a fractured shin but could not be immediately transported to a hospital because the designated ambulance was being used for other tasks at a different venue. Additionally, inadequate ambulance coverage was noted at the swimming venue, and physical barriers such as steps and steep ramps hindered wheelchair users at various locations.
In preparation for the upcoming 107th National Sports Festival, Jeju Province is implementing measures to boost local economic activity. Spectators can receive NFT digital tickets through the official website. By verifying attendance at opening and closing ceremonies or visiting competition venues via NFC tags, visitors can receive up to 20,000 KRW in 'Tamnanunjeon' local currency. NFT ticket holders also qualify for free or discounted entry to 24 designated public tourist sites.
