Gwangju Medical Association holds 32nd Doctors' Day event

The Gwangju Medical Association held its 32nd Doctors' Day and Mudeung Irim Awards ceremony at Donggang University Gymnasium on October 25. During the event, Association President Choi Jung-seop addressed concerns regarding medical policies and legislation, noting that if the voices of medical professionals are not sufficiently reflected, difficulties in essential medical fields—such as emergency medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics—could intensify.

President Choi also highlighted the potential impact of the ongoing trend of medical residents avoiding certain specialties on the sustainability of regional healthcare. Additionally, he called for cautious approaches regarding the entry of traditional Korean medicine practitioners into the cosmetic and plastic surgery sectors, emphasizing the need for clear legal standards and verified expertise to ensure public safety.

The ceremony included the presentation of various awards, including the Mudeung Irim Awards for service and merit, as well as academic awards to professors from Chonnam National University and Chosun University. Local officials, including Gwangju Mayor Min Hyung-bae, attended to express support for medical professionals and the resolution of regional healthcare workforce issues.
