Jeju Island to host National Sports Festival and Tamna Cultural Festival
Jeju Island is preparing for the 107th National Sports Festival and the 65th Tamna Cultural Festival, which will be held in conjunction to celebrate regional culture and athletic spirit.
The torch for the National Sports Festival was lit at Manisan on Ganghwa Island. The relay will connect Jeju's main island with five surrounding islands, including Chujado, Biyangdo, Gapado, Marado, and Udo. Special relay methods will be used, such as drone-assisted transfers in Biyangdo and maritime relays in Gapado and Marado. Following a special lighting ceremony at Jeju Stone Park, the torch will be carried by approximately 900 runners across 115 sections of the province before lighting the cauldron at the Jeju World Cup Stadium on the 16th.
Simultaneously, the Tamna Cultural Festival will take place from the 17th to the 21st near the Jeju Citizen Welfare Town Square. The festival features 16 programs across four main areas: Ppuri, Nori, Eoul, and Kkumbit Madang. Highlights include traditional folk performances, an art market, and the creative dance drama ‘Daughter of the Wind, Becoming an Island’. The festival's location was moved closer to the main sports venues to encourage participation from visitors attending the National Sports Festival.
