Jeju Office of Education begins feasibility study for new physical education high school

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education has launched a formal feasibility study to establish a “Jeju-style” physical education high school. A 13-member expert task force, comprising representatives from the provincial government, sports associations, educational experts, and parents, will hold its first meeting on the 21st to outline the group’s operational plan.

The task force will conduct a comprehensive review of several critical factors, including student-athlete demand, school operating models, curriculum design, training facilities, dormitory requirements, and financial feasibility. A key concern is ensuring long-term sustainability amidst declining student populations.

Between October and November, the team plans to visit existing physical education high schools in other provinces to study their operations, facilities, and integration with local government sports infrastructure. The group will also visit various locations within Jeju to assess educational and athletic accessibility and gather community feedback. The Office of Education intends to present a concrete direction for the school's establishment by the end of the year based on these findings.
