Jeju official faces calls to resign over Second Airport rally attendance

The group criticized Yang for attending a rally in support of the Jeju Second Airport construction on September 9.

Critics argue that Yang's participation compromises his neutrality, which is essential for overseeing the objectivity and fairness of the project's environmental impact assessment. The group further noted that Yang represents the Seongsan-eup district, the proposed site for the airport, and expressed concern that his actions disregard the potential displacement and noise pollution faced by local residents. The protesters are demanding a democratic decision through a referendum, as requested by a large portion of the provincial population.
