Jeju prosecutors seek seven years for man accused of harassing and kidnapping attempt

Prosecutors in Jeju have requested a seven-year prison sentence for a man in his 60s accused of sexually harassing and attempting to kidnap a middle school student. The incident occurred on May 19 in an underground parking lot of a villa in Jeju City, where the defendant allegedly embraced the student from behind and attempted to forcibly drag her away.

The defendant, who was released from prison late last year and was still within a recidivism period, also faces charges for an attempted theft from a cargo truck two days prior to the assault. During the final hearing at the Jeju District Court, the defendant admitted to all charges and expressed remorse, stating he would stop drinking after serving his sentence. His defense counsel cited the defendant's intoxication and economic hardship as mitigating factors.

The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on October 8.
