Jeju Province identifies environmental violations at 12 development sites
Jeju Province has identified environmental management deficiencies at several development sites following inspections of environmental impact assessments. Out of 45 sites inspected this year, 12 locations were found to have 19 instances of non-compliance.
The identified issues include insufficient evidence of implementing agreed-upon terms, inadequate waste management and disposal documentation, and poor installation or maintenance of pollution reduction facilities, such as wastewater treatment and vehicle washing systems. The affected sites include one golf course, six tourism development projects, one road/port project, and four other miscellaneous sites.
Jeju authorities have classified these 12 sites as priority management targets. Failure to implement required corrective actions may result in fines of up to 50 million won. Additionally, 33 other sites received recommendations to address 54 minor issues. The inspections were conducted by a joint team of 20 experts and local resident representatives, focusing on areas such as ecology, air, water, and land quality.
