Jeju public safety and laboratory safety training discussed in South Korea

In South Korea, discussions are underway regarding the adequacy of public safety resources in Jeju. Following a series of violent crimes and controversies over missing person reports, National Assembly member Moon Dae-rim is hosting a forum to examine police manpower allocation and the authority of the Jeju Autonomous Police. The discussion aims to address whether current staffing, which is largely based on resident population, sufficiently accounts for the high volume of tourists and transient populations in the region.

Separately, the Korea Institute of Educational Facility Safety held a job training session in Jeonju for approximately 80 laboratory safety managers from the Honam and Jeju regions. The training focused on enhancing safety management capabilities in response to a reported increase in laboratory accidents, which rose from 328 cases in 2022 to 454 cases in 2025. The program covered safety inspection plans, best practices for accident prevention, and updates to safety-related laws and compensation systems.
