Jelena Bačić Alimpić refuses book translation to ijekavian

Writer, journalist, and TV presenter Jelena Bačić Alimpić has drawn public attention after refusing a proposal from a Croatian publishing house to translate her books into the ijekavian dialect.

Alimpić stated that she declined the offer to maintain her integrity, arguing that her works should be published in the ekavian dialect as originally written. She questioned why publishers could not simply publish her Latin-script books as they are, noting that readers are capable of reading different dialects, citing Vedrana Rudan as an example of an author who writes in ijekavian.

Following the controversy, Alimpić traveled to Vukovar to hold a book promotion and signing event. She shared her positive impressions of the evening on social media, describing a successful gathering filled with discussions about books and life.
