Jelena Janković named ambassador for EXPO 2027 in Belgrade
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić officially received former world number one tennis player Jelena Janković in Belgrade, announcing her role as an ambassador and promoter for the EXPO 2027 international exhibition. The event, themed ‘Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All’, is expected to host approximately 140 participating countries and 8,000 events during its 93-day duration.
Vučić emphasized that EXPO 2027 is a critical driver for national development and infrastructure, noting that significant investments are being made in transport, including new roads, railways, and connections to the airport. Finance Minister Siniša Mali stated that all seven exhibition halls are expected to be completed ahead of schedule.
Janković expressed her pride in representing Serbia on a global stage, stating she intends to showcase the country’s culture and energy. However, her involvement has drawn mixed reactions from the public; while supporters view her as a national icon, some critics have interpreted her cooperation with the administration through a political lens.
