Jelgava hosts Old Town Street festival featuring crafts, music and family activities
On 15 August, Jelgava’s historic Vecpilsētas iela will be closed to traffic from 08:00 to 20:00 for a city‑wide celebration that begins at 11:00. Visitors can browse a market of Latvian makers, food stalls and artisan products, while enjoying live performances by local choirs, a leijerkastnieks, and historical reenactments. Exhibitions include the photo collection “Toreiz un tagad” and works by students of the Jelgava Art School.
Family‑friendly programmes run throughout the day: workshops in the “Dzīvesziņas un arodu sētā”, children’s theatre shows by the city library at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00, inflatable rides, pony rides on Jāņa Asara iela, large‑format games and face‑painting. Restaurateur Agrita Reinvalde will demonstrate the restoration of a wooden window, and the evening concludes with a free green‑ball featuring the group “Deserts”. A musical programme called “Brokastnīcas” continues from 16:00 to 20:00 in the garden area. Three guided tours of the quarter, led by Innas Altuhova, are scheduled for 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00; participants must pre‑register by phone or email.
