Jellyfish Farm in Flieden is Europe's largest breeding facility
Alexander Dressel operates the Jellyfish Farm in Flieden, Germany, which is recognized as the largest jellyfish breeding facility in Europe. The farm provides jellyfish to research laboratories and zoos across the globe.
To facilitate expansion, Dressel recently relocated his entire operation from Künzell to Flieden in a four-week period. The new facility includes twelve separate systems and over 200 tanks, containing a total of approximately 35,000 liters of water.
Dressel, a trained fish specialist with experience at Sea Life Konstanz and the Ozeaneum Stralsund, began his systematic breeding in 2019 after discovering polyps in his own tanks. The jellyfish species he breeds are notable for their ability to revert to a juvenile state under stress, a phenomenon often described as biological immortality.
