Jellyfish phenomenon reported on the Romanian coast

Thousands of dead jellyfish have washed ashore and entered fishing nets along the Romanian coast, specifically near the localities of Agigea and Constanța. The phenomenon has caused difficulties for local fishermen, who reported catching significantly less fish than usual due to the massive presence of jellyfish on the water's surface.

Scientist Adrian Bâlbă explained that the occurrence is linked to the jellyfish's short life cycle, which lasts approximately one year. After reproducing, the jellyfish stop feeding and lose the ability to swim against currents, eventually dying. This process can take several weeks, during which time waves and currents carry the organisms toward the shore.
