Jelovica mountain: 140,000 euros worth of illegal timber discovered

Police in Berane have discovered 1,018 cubic meters of illegally felled timber on Mount Jelovica. The stolen wood is estimated to be worth nearly 140,000 euros.

Authorities have secured the area and launched an investigation to identify those responsible. The State Prosecutor in Berane has ordered the protection of the timber and directed the Forest Management and Hunting Administration to take necessary measures.

Andrija Delić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, has accused the management of the Forest Administration of organized forest destruction in the region. He noted that between 2020 and 2022, approximately 4,364 cubic meters of illegal logging were recorded in the Berane municipality.
