Jember man reported to police for alleged blasphemy in viral videos

A man in Jember, East Java, named Abdullah Arrosyi, has been reported to the police for alleged blasphemy following viral social media content. In videos uploaded to TikTok, Arrosyi claimed to have met Allah and the Prophet Muhammad SAW directly and consciously.

The claims caused significant unrest among local residents and religious figures in Sumberbaru District. Before filing a formal report with the Jember Police, community members and religious organizations attempted to resolve the matter through two mediation sessions, known as tabayyun, at the Sumberbaru Police Sector office. During these meetings, Arrosyi was asked to delete the controversial content, but he reportedly refused to do so.

Ipda Firmansyah, Head of Public Relations for the Jember Police, confirmed that authorities are monitoring the situation and collecting evidence. As of September 21, 2026, Arrosyi remains a reported witness and has not been named a suspect. Police are currently investigating the reports to prevent potential security disturbances in the area.
