Jemma Reekie sets European road mile record in Germany
Scottish middle-distance runner Jemma Reekie has set a new European road mile record, clocking 4:23.25 at the New Balance Ko Meile meet in Dusseldorf, Germany. The victory comes after a challenging season for Reekie, which was disrupted by a concussion following a fall during a race in Poland in May. The injury impacted her preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she finished 10th in the mile.
In addition to Reekie’s record-breaking performance, Scottish athlete Eilish McColgan secured her fourth victory at the Big Half in London. McColgan’s win follows a five-month absence due to a broken toe sustained during the London Marathon in April.
Reekie has expressed confidence in her physical condition despite recent setbacks and is expected to compete in the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York.
